Happy St Patrick's Day!
Top of the morning to ya! Surprisingly it didn't rain today...my earliest childhood memories of St Patrick's day were of the most miserable of days, huddled under umbrellas in our co-ordinated green hand knitted jumpers (made lovingly but usually in a frenzy the night before the parade by my mother on her Brother knitting machine!). These days at the St Patrick's day parage were usually spent jostling for position, especially when we had spent hours camping out our position on the kerbside in the rain only to be elbowed out of the way by a less than socially graceful family who swanned in at 12pm to take our spaces. And all of this effort was to catch a glimpse of the AT&T alarms floats which in their day were the 'Beez kneez' of floats...
Not much has changed today - this time it's my turn to bring my kiddies in to see the St Patrick's day parade. Lucky for them and their little legs they get the best view up on our shoulders. I literally saw nothing of it as I was standing behind a bunch of tall men and some hoarding. However I was able to hear the drums of the marching band and experience the parade through the lens of my camera - often snapped by waving my camera in the air or by the little ones on our shoulders. So here are some photos of the parade I didn't see in real life but it was there about ten feet in front of me. At least we didn't have rain and the floats have come along way since the AT&T days of my youth!
